About Basilea

For the Kingdom.
For the Church. For the World.

We believe the church must be healthy internally before it can be effective externally. Everything we do flows from that conviction.

Who we are

Basilea is the Greek word for "kingdom" (βασιλεία) — the same word Jesus used when he spoke of the Kingdom of God. It's a word that points beyond any single church, denomination, or program to the larger reality of what God is doing in the world.

Basilea Community Solutions is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Southern California, operating as Basilea Ministries. We were founded by a team of pastors with over 30 years of collective church ministry experience — people who have lived the realities of pastoral ministry firsthand and who carry a deep burden for the health of the church and the advance of the Gospel.

Our roots are in the conservative Reformed and Presbyterian tradition, but our heart is for the broader evangelical church. We serve churches across denominational lines — because the crisis facing pastors and the need for the Gospel don't respect denominational boundaries.

What we believe

We hold to the historic Christian faith as expressed in the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed. We affirm the authority and sufficiency of Scripture. We believe in the triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — and in the saving work of Jesus Christ alone. We are evangelical and Reformed in our theological convictions, and we work joyfully with brothers and sisters across the conservative evangelical spectrum.

Why we exist

We started Basilea because we kept seeing the same two things — and they broke our hearts.

First, we saw pastors around us burning out, growing isolated, losing their families, and in some cases leaving ministry altogether — not because they lacked calling, but because nobody was caring for them. Churches expected them to pour out endlessly but had no plan to pour back in. Elder boards were trained to govern, but not to shepherd their shepherd.

Second, we saw the vast, heartbreaking need in places like Japan — nations full of people who have never heard the name of Jesus, never opened a Bible, never had a Christian friend. And we believed that the church, if it were healthy and strong, would be the vehicle God uses to reach them.

These two convictions — care for the church, reach the world — became Basilea.

Two initiatives, one vision

Everything under the Basilea umbrella serves one unified Kingdom vision: strengthen the church so it can reach the world.

We help the church change.

Our team

Basilea is led by a team of seasoned pastors with deep roots in the Southern California church landscape. Our founders bring decades of ministry experience, extensive relationships with currently serving and retired pastors, and firsthand understanding of what it takes to lead a church in today's environment.

We come from the Asian American church context but serve churches of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Our network includes pastors, counselors, seminary-trained leaders, and church planters across Southern California and beyond.

Our approach to funding

Basilea operates on a hybrid funding model that combines grant funding, church partnerships on a sliding scale, and individual donations. This ensures that churches of all sizes can access our programs — a small church of 50 pays differently than a church of 500 — while maintaining long-term organizational sustainability.

We are actively pursuing grant opportunities including the Lilly Endowment's clergy renewal programs, private foundations focused on pastoral care, and denominational partnerships. We also welcome individual donors and church sponsors who share our vision for a healthier church and a reached world.

Basilea Community Solutions is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

We'd love to hear from you
